Our comprehensive suite of scholarships help students succeed and grow.
Finally, people can use their federal tax money to help kids.
A Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that receives private donations to provide K-12 scholarships, often allowing donors to receive tax credits. SGOs serve as intermediaries, prioritizing low-to-moderate income students and operating under state-level authorization, with a new federal tax credit for donations taking effect in 2027.
Key Aspects of SGOs
- Purpose: SGOs raise funds to help students afford tuition at private or alternative schools, promoting educational choice.
- Donor Benefits: In many states, individuals and businesses get a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for donations, meaning a $1 donation reduces their taxes owed by $1.
- Federal Tax Credit (2027): A new federal credit allows individuals up to $1,700 and married couples up to $3,400 annually for donations to qualifying SGOs.
- Requirements: SGOs must be registered nonprofits, often required to spend a high percentage (e.g., 90%) of revenue on scholarships and distribute to students in multiple schools.
